Gummy Grins

Jonas has been toying with the idea for a few days now; but the stimulus was usually having his diaper removed or various digestion rumblings.  However God must have laid some new pathways in his brain as he slept last night, cause as of this morning he’s a social smiling machine!

His timing is excellent, as today is Josh’s 28th birthday, and what better gift can there be?

Packing for the Weekend

…it used to be so easy!  Now I’m forced to make a list, ensuring that we don’t leave anything crucial behind; diapers for instance!  The crazy part is that we are bringing the dog too. Watch out Kent, here we come. I’ll let you know how it goes

Oh, and here is my new favorite picture of our silly little boy. Josh says it looks like he’s talking on the phone, I think he’s pointing to his head as if to say “think!”.  IMG_1188.JPG.

An Earth Mother Moment

IMG_1178.JPG

What can I say, my critters love me….and Brando and Petunia have no doubt felt slightly neglected the past two weeks, but also curious about the new noisy wiggle worm that smells soooo interesting!

We had a great weekend, with a visit from Hannah and Jordan and Heather and Karl!  I prepped Jonas by telling him that these are mom and dad’s friends that love him already and will be part of his life forever!  I love knowing that he will have numerous wonderful adults influencing him as he grows up. I’m so thankful to have so many wonderful friends that I can rely on (and have already relied on) for advice, encouragement, prayers, and practical help.  All of you who read the blog, and many of you who don’t all make me feel like I have a huge, loving extended family (even bigger than my actual huge, loving extended family :) ).

And here are some of my favorite pictures from the weekend.  (notice that Grandpa Jerry could not keep his eyes open!)

Almost 2 weeks

Hard to believe that it was not even two weeks ago that we welcomed Jonas into the Rogers Family Neighborhood… we’ve started slowing on the picture taking as life has become more routine each day, but here are a few of the highlights from weeks 1 & 2 at home.

Day at Home

We were hunkered down at home all day; but the party came to us, in the form of two delivered meals-thanks Chris and Stephanie!  A naked baby photo-shoot (see below) thanks to Claudia and her artistic eye;  and a riveting podcast hosted by Josh and Greg documenting the first place winner of the 2010 Iditarod (Lance Mackey for those of you who haven’t already heard).  Jonas and I are continuing to get more proficient at nursing, I’m sure we’ll be pros in no time.  I tried pumping today so Josh got to feed Jonas for the first time, very special. A personal goal for tomorrow is to do some type of exercise–this laying around has been nice, but i’ve got to get moving again!

Healthy and Happy

As you may have read below yesterday evening there was some concern about jonas’ heart rate. He did very well through the night and this morning Sylvia returned and examined him again and his heart was within normal range and all other indicators; color, breathing rate, etc. were good. He has been sleeping, with some eating mixed in and keeps getting pinker all the time. I am relieved.

We’re home!

After spending a wonderful night in a very empty Birthing Inn, we headed home this afternoon around 2pm. We’ve been getting settled over the last few hours and Jonas is doing great!

First few Hours

It is very surreal but we are parents now!  I am currently laying in bed and enjoying watching Josh and Jonas bond; Josh is a great dad already :) .   We had a wonderful visit from the new grandparents and aunts and uncle. My parents arrived in time to hear my last push through the rather thin walls, then hear the new baby cry.   And I was delighted to hear  and see that through the course of the day we made my dad cry 3 times. What a softie :) . Everyone, even the rather hesitant Auntie Sarah and Aunt Janell and Uncle Matt did a great job of holding the baby.  Sarah also made a visit around noon during her lunch hour where she got to see me suffering through the beginning of the worst of the contractions…what a dedicated sister :) .

Jonas was very awake for his first few hours, and is now very sleepy, which is apparently a normal thing, as he has had quite a taxing day today too.  His heart rate has been a little low over the past few hours, and he has had a few exams by Sylvia one of the midwives who attended us today, and she has consulted with colleagues. At this point it is not a problem as his color and his nursing are good and even when sleeping he makes all kinds of cute noises and hand gestures, but prayers would be appreciated.  We have the pager number and direct number for Sylvia if anything starts to look questionable tonight.

I’m going to try to feed him again, then brush my teeth and get some sleep.
